HI SEM, I am glad you liked the pics.they were taken during 82-83.I went to college for photography then graduated.I knew Jon Zazula for his store Rock & Roll Heaven . He began to grow by putting on live shows. His first act was canadian Anvil. After that he brought metallica over from San Francisco to the New Jersey area. I met James, Lars, Dave & Cliff and became friends with the guys .then I found out that Dave was getting replaced because of his problem with alcohol, and Kirk Hammett from Exodus was the new ax man . I began to photograph them live, including Kirks' first show with Metallica at a club called the show place in new jersey. I shot every show that i could during that period of time because I knew deep down inside these guys were special and were going to be Metal giants. After the release of ride the lightihg and after a soundcheck Kirk came up to me and gave me real bad news. He told me that with the Electra record deal that I was not allowed to photograph them any more because they have a contact with a photographer that works for Electra records. I think the photographer was Ross Halfin. Performed for the first time at the famous Monsters of Rock festival at Donnington, England. Metallica was squeezed in-between two poser bands, Ratt and Bon Jovi, on the bill. James decided to tell the 70,000 kids what to expect: "If you came here to see spandex, eye makeup, and the words 'Oh baby' in every fuckin' song, this ain't the fuckin' band."
