Metallica was invited to perform at the VH1 music award and you know the guys, they always have to do something different. Metallica played at the parking lot outside for 200 fans and fanclub members, instead of playing inside in front of other celebrities. Jason, coming out and signing autographs beforehand while people waited in line. Opening with a warm-up of the cover, So What!. After a guitar check for Hetfield, they started playing Fade to Black, only to be stopped in mid-song, to be told, Live in 60 seconds. All the suspense as to what they would play ended when finally, we were live, and they started up Fade to Black.
